Kites and Coaching

“For you are free, yet you are God’s slaves, so don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do evil.”  (1 Peter 2:16)

True freedom is only possible by staying connected to the one who sets us free.   Staying true to the one who sets us free means being HIS slave.

We went to the Oregon coast a few weeks back.   It was cold and windy at the beach.  It wasn’t a great day for swimming, but a great day for watching waves or flying kites.   It was a thrill watching the wind do what it does so well, like filling the sails of colorful kites.  It seemed like a great picture of freedom, soaring high above the waves. The kite does what it does best because of the wind.

I pondered that.  On windy stormy days, am I at my best not just in spite of but even because of the wind?  When skies are dark and storms of trials blow my way, do I crash or do I soar?

The kite has freedom to fly so well because of a thin string in a grounded hand.  Slavery to the string sets it free.  True freedom is slavery to that which sets us free.  Anything else is a crash course.

Servant/slaves of Jesus are truly free, grounded in Him by even a thin string of faith in His strong hand.  “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”  (John 8:32).   It is possible to soar above the circumstances with wings of the Eagle, to His glory, even because of the winds of life.

Stay free by staying connected!  Coaching helps.

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free!”  (Galatians 2:16)

  • What threatens your freedom?
  • What helps you to stay connected to Jesus?
  • God is a Good Father. Sometimes we need to be pulled in, held closely, and patched up for higher flight.   How has that been your experience?
