New life is happening. New growth is rising up out of the ground. Buds and blossoms on the trees are amazing here in the Pacific Northwest as spring unfolds.
Looking at some Irises today, I was remembering when we dug up a bunch of bulbs a few years ago and threw them over the back fence of our yard in Iowa. I thought that would be the end of them. Actually, the next spring they all grew and flowered, to my amazement. What I had discarded and thought I had gotten rid of actually somehow re-rooted.
It’s like they wanted to prove they could survive even the toughest treatment and the injustice of being misunderstood and under-appreciated. They not only survived but thrived, like God had done a miracle of regeneration and renewal in the face of people giving up on them.
Even after being devalued and discarded, those plants are flourishing in a new place, blossoming to God’s glory, growing like they were totally restored. It’s like they seized a renewed opportunity for life.
Wait—-that is the gospel isn’t it? There are people and forces in the world who would like to see you deleted and discarded. Maybe you have even felt unworthy to be in the garden and have given up on yourself. Or other people have given up on you, or someone you know.
Be encouraged. Dare to dream again. The best is yet to come if you follow Jesus.
“So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” (2 Cor. 5:16-18)
