2 Tim 4:5b-6a
“Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you. As for me, my life has already been poured out as an offering to God.”
I am encouraged in these words to work at telling others Good News, doing ministry, pouring OUT my life. That word “out” stands out to me in these verses. It appears twice.
I am remembering a family gathering where three Chinese gals, really smart research doctors, were with us for the fun. During the evening, they made hard boiled eggs to serve “Tea Eggs.” This involved something I had never seen. They took the hot eggs from the boiling water and put them into a bowl of cold water. When I asked about it, they explained that putting them quickly into cold water “imploded” the eggs and helped separate them from the shell.
To implode is to burst or collapse inward.
That is good for an egg, but bad for an individual or a church. It is not good to grow inward. In a church, we can have implosion trajectory by too many activities based on those on the inside. The natural drift for any church is to become a church exclusively for church people.
Or, we can implode by trying to protect the truth rather in some kind of shell rather than proclaiming it outward. That can lead to legalism, which is like cold water.
It is the same for an individual follower of Jesus. People can throw cold water on our dreams. Imploding is not a good thing for people. It is much more fun to burst forth and break the barriers. Make a kingdom difference. Let your faith in Jesus explode outward. Tell your story. Let your life pour out what God is pouring in. It’s a great adventure!
Here is my question today……In what areas of my life am I too “inward” focused? Where is God encouraging me to reach out?
