Jesus soon saw a huge crowd of people coming to look for him. Turning to Philip, he asked, “Where can we buy bread to feed all these people?” (John 6:5)
Jesus saw people coming to look for him. They were spiritually hungry. In His compassion, Jesus was also aware of their need for physical nourishment.
The people were hungry to find Jesus. In finding Jesus, they found the God who cared about their needs.
God often meets people directly in their moments of need. But, it’s not a stretch to envision Jesus turning to you rather than to the crowds, asking a question like that addressed to Philip.
Where? Where can WE buy bread? Do you see these people? Jesus turned not to the crowd but to Philip. He drew in his team with a question.
We encounter people every day with a God-given hunger. They also have needs. What is the question we might hear? God invites us to participate, to do His work, and what an amazing privilege! We get to help people taste and see that God is good.
God help me to look up and SEE what you see and participate in what YOU want to do! Father, would you increase our hunger for YOU, and help us to serve people with Joy.
